Bernd Leno reacts to Granit Xhaka’s error vs Burnley

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has reacted to Granit Xhaka’s blunder during the club’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Burnley on the road. The Gunners took the lead after just six minutes on the clock through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and should have doubled the advantage with the chances which were handed to them. However, they ended up going into the break with the scores level after a horrendous mistake from Xhaka. The Swiss midfielder asked for the ball from Leno in the six-yard box and attempted to clear across the face of goal. Instead, the ball struck Chris Wood’s hip and cannoned into an empty net with Leno rooted at the far post. That happened to be the final goal of the game despite chances for both sides for the remainder of the contest. Speaking aft...

Zidane labels Benzema ´a joy for football´ as talisman prepares for Madrid derby return

Zinedine Zidane described Karim Benzema as a “joy for football” as the Real Madrid boss prepared to welcome the striker back for Sunday’s crucial derby with Atletico Madrid. Madrid make the short trip to the Wanda Metropolitano with Los Blancos trailing their LaLiga-leading neighbours by five points, Atletico also having the benefit of a game in hand. Having returned to training this week following an ankle injury that has kept him out since February 14, Benzema is back in the frame for a game that could go a long way to deciding the destination of the title. “Karim is going to be with us,” Zidane told a media conference. “We know what Karim is. Not just the matter of goals. “He is an important player for us in our syst...

Lo Celso, Aurier and Bale: Latest Tottenham injury news and expected return dates

Tottenham squeezed past Fulham to secure back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since November. A Tosin Adarabioyo own goal ensured Spurs added to their 4-0 home victory over Burnley last weekend but they were rather fortuitous to come away with the three points against the Cottagers on Thursday night. Stan Kroenke’s stance, true cost of hiring Mikel Arteta – 6 things learnt from Arsenal accounts

Arsenal's accounts, released yesterday, revealed a loss of £47.8million despite a significant rise in commercial revenues, salary savings of almost £20million and more than £60million generated in player sales. Much of that is down to the impact of coronavirus, which has hampered two of their three main revenue streams, while their financial year ended on May 31 and therefore before Project Restart and their FA Cup win. But the figures should still come as a concern despite their strategic report referring to "the unwavering support and commitment" of the Kroenke family. “The results for the financial year have been materially impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and the consequent lockdown and suspension of the 2019/20 football season," the club said. “The directors consider that the e...

The Blues go into the game against Everton after inflicting a fifth straight home defeat on defending Premier League champions Liverpool with a well-earned 1-0 win at Anfield. Mason Mount was electric on Thursday night and his dynamism and quality were on full display as he fired a well-struck shot into the corner just before half-time. The Blues dominated the opening 45 minutes and Timo Werner was unlucky to have his effort ruled out by the slightest of margins for offside. The win moves Thomas Tuchel's side into the top four and extends their unbeaten run under the German manager to 10 games in all competitions.
