Tottenham transfer rumours: Christian Eriksen hurdles, Andre Villas-Boas’ Morgan Sanson update

It’s expected to be a relatively quiet January transfer window for Tottenham Hotspur after a busy summer period.

Spurs spent nearly £100million on eight new players in the summer window to help their push for the top four this season.

However, Jose Mourinho’s side have had a slump in form recently, which could tempt the Portuguese head coach into the transfer market this month.

As well as this, there are some out of favour players that could look to leave north London during the window.

With all this being said, here is the latest round-up of Tottenham-related transfer rumours and stories.

The truth in Eriksen links

Tottenham, among other clubs, have been contacted by Christian Eriksen’s representatives over a potential return for the Dane, football.londonunderstands.

However, it’s not as straightforward as that and there are some potential hurdles in bringing Eriksen back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is believed that while Mourinho enjoyed his short spell with the Denmark international, he did not see the best from the 28-year-old, who has also been out of form for Inter Milan since signing 12 months ago.

Also, Spurs have found that a return for a former player isn’t always the right answer – with Gareth Bale struggling to break into Mourinho’s side this season since signing from Real Madrid on loan.

Villas-Boas confirms Sanson interest

Marseille manager and former Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed there has been interest in Morgan Sanson from multiple English sides.

Spurs have been linked with a move for Sanson in the past, with the French midfielder producing some impressive form for the Ligue 1 outfit this season.

Former Spurs boss Villas-Boas said: “We’ll see. The transfer window is open, Sanson is a player who is highly rated. Officially, we have not received any offers, unless it happened during the match.

“He is a boy who interests English teams because of his characteristics, and it is possible that something could happen.”

Georgiou set to end Spurs stay

Tottenham winger Anthony Georgiou is currently in Cyprus to complete a move to AEL Limassol, according to Football Insider.

Georgiou has already completed a medical with the Cypriot club, the report claims, and is set to end his eight-year spell with Spurs.

The 23-year-old has had three loan spells since 2017, spending time at Levante B, Ipswich Town and Bolton Wanderers.

The winger made just one senior appearance for Spurs, which came in the Champions League back in 2017 under Mauricio Pochettino.
