Arsenal are interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma, football.london has revealed.
The 24-year-old Mali international, who joined the Seagulls from French outfit Lille back in 2018, has attracted no shortage of interest from a range of big-name Premier League clubs in recent months, following a string of fine performances for the South Coast club.
Although Arsenal, who will be seeking a fifth successive victory in all competitions when they face Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday evening, are keen on landing Bissouma, football.london understands that the Gunners will wait until the summer before launching a move for his services.
That is because the Gunners’ top priority this month is to add a new attacking-midfielder to their ranks, opposed to adding a box-to-box-type midfield player.
Arsenal are keen on signing Norwich City ace Emiliano Buendia in an attempt to add a new creative spark to their midfield options, with Julian Brandt of Borussia Dortmund also under consideration.
With that in mind, as well as finances proving tight for a plethora of clubs right now because of the ongoing coronavirus troubles, Arsenal are poised to hold off until the summer when it comes to exploring the idea of signing Bissouma, who has racked up 16 appearances in the Premier League this term, scoring one goal.
To hand Arsenal an advantage in the race to sign the former Lille midfield ace, football.london has been told that ‘he loves the Premier League’ and would love to play for the Gunners over any other club.
As well as Bissouma being keen on the idea of joining Arsenal if the prospect arises, Bissouma is also good friends with current Arsenal duo Gabriel Magalhaes and Nicolas Pepe, who played alongside the midfielder during their time together at Lille.
It is understood that Arsenal have already made contact with Michael N’Cho – Bissouma’s agent – about the prospect of signing the midfielder, but a summer transfer is far more likely than a deal being done this month, with a new attacking-midfielder at the very top of Mikel Arteta’s priority list.
In truth, a summer move for Bissouma would make far more sense for Arsenal as Granit Xhaka’s future remains up in the air and Dani Ceballos is poised to return to Real Madrid.

As regards to Arsenal’s interest in Bissouma, it is clear that they see the midfielder as a long-term partner for Thomas Partey, with the duo capable of breaking up play, keeping the back-line in check and offering an all-round sense of energy and desire to the Gunners’ engine room.
Recently, Graham Potter – the Brighton head coach – outlined the key qualities that Bissouma brings to his team, offering Arteta an insight into what skills he could bring to the table in north London.
Potter explained: “He wins a lot of balls back and physically he is in a good place.
“He makes good decisions and he has the power, athleticism and technical qualities to deal with the ball. It’s then just the tactical understanding which I think he has developed.”
