Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has reportedly been given an ultimatum by Genoa over a potential transfer to the Italian club.
Sokratis is out of contact at the Gunners in June and is trying to secure a move away from the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window.
The 32-year-old defender has not played for Arsenal this season and has been linked with a transfer to Genoa and Turkish giants Fenerbahce recently.
However, according to Sky Sports Italy, via Football Italia, Genoa have informed Sokratis that they will sign another centre-back if he doesn’t commit to a move by the end of this week.
Sokratis played for the Serie A club for two seasons between 2008 and 2010 and is keen to find some regular first-team football after being frozen out of the picture in north London.
Arsenal have already managed to find loan deals for William Saliba and Sead Kolasinac this month, with the defenders moving to Nice and Schalke respectively.
But manager Mikel Arteta has warned those who want to leave that the current climate is making such moves more difficult than usual.
“I don’t know. To be fair at the moment the market is really complicated,” he said ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup tie against Newcastle.
“The situation around every club is not easy, and to get the negotiations going as well because you cannot be face to face, you cannot travel to another country to make a deal happen like that.
“Everything has to be through the phone or Zoom. It can go either way to be fair. I don’t want to tell you.

“I can tell you what I would like, which is day one to have the squad like I want and the players out and in sorted. I think it’s really complicated for now.”
Sokratis is not the only player being linked with a move away from Arsenal at the moment, with Mesut Ozil’s future the subject of renewed speculation.
Like the Greek defender, Ozil has not featured for Arteta’s side this season and has reportedly held talks with Fenerbahce and DC United over loan moves this month.
