Real Madrid has moved to shore up its frontcourt going into 2021 by signing former Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champion and veteran defensive ace Alex Tyus for the rest of the season. Tyus (2.03 meters, 32 years old) played last season for UNICS Kazan, averaging 10.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in the 7DAYS EuroCup. He won the EuroLeague title in 2014 during the first of his two stints with Maccabi Tel Aviv. He also won the first of his two MVP of the Month honors in April of that 2013-14 season, as Maccabi overcame homecourt disadvantage in the playoffs. Tyus debuted in the EuroLeague for Mapooro Cantu in 2012 and has also spent one season each with Anadolu Efes Istanbul and Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul. He started the current season playing for Galatasaray, as well. He ranks fourth all-time among EuroLeague shot-blockers with 209 for his career and ranks 12th in both average blocks (1.2 per game) and per-minute blocks (2.6 prorated over 40 minutes). All told, Tyus has played in 176 EuroLeague games, averaging 7.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. Known for his incredible alley-oop dunks, Tyus also ranks 14th all-time in two-point shooting accuracy, having made 64.2% of his attempts over the years, or 600 for 935.
